What do peasents from 17th century cheese factories and I have in common . . .Cholera!

Last year at this time I was traveling through chile, about halfway into the trip I ate this raw/mammal/shelfish/ thing called piure (or something). Yes it is served raw in its own mucus (see pic). I got really sick and learned the spanish name for noraflaxcin. Turns out there was an outbreak of cholera in puerto montt (the town I was in) around the same time as well as in 2005. Cholera!! What the hell!

I took a photo of the meal before I ate it. Something inside told me that in the very near future I would need to show this to a doctor.
