I think around May 15th I hit my one year anniversary living in Iceland. I do not get homesick but I do find myself missing certain things I really took for granted back in the US.

So here is my list of random stuff I miss by living in Iceland:

• Fresh Vegetables
• Fresh Fruit
• Vegetables other than potatoes/onions/carrots/tomatoes
• Bacon Egg & Cheese Sandwiches
• Temperatures Over 60
• Nightime in the Summer & Daytime in the Winter
• Kraft Macaroni & Cheese
• If it’s sunday morning… it’s meet the press
• People over the age of 12 in customer service
• Over 40gb a month of Internet
• Cheap Alcohol
• Bialys

I think that covers it.

Subversion is my current version control system of choice. However my work server does not have a dedicated domain. This means there are different IP addresses of the server when I am at home and when I am at work.

This is a royal pain in the ass.

To solve this I added a domain into my /etc/hosts file. Then I just comment out and enable the right one depending on where I am. This works for osx and if you are unlucky enough to be working on a pc, there is a similar hosts file you can change.

Example:


#svn settings
192.168.X.XX svn.foo.com
#XXX.XXX.XX.XX svn.foo.com


Then in your IDE you use svn.foo.com as the URL for subversion. No more switching repositories. Ahhhhhhhh
